One-year visiting position, Middlebury College
The Department of French seeks applications for a one-year visiting appointment for the 2012-2013 academic year. Any field with a preference of specialization in 18th-century or 20th-century French literature (not Francophone literature) or French film; experience teaching with “French in Action” strongly preferred. Applicants must have native or near-native command of French, and Ph.D. in hand. Candidates should show evidence of successful teaching experience (including language). The successful candidate will teach courses in French literature and language, including beginning French. Director of the C.V. Starr-Middlebury School in Africa - Cameroon
Middlebury College seeks an energetic and innovative person to serve as Director of the C.V. Starr-Middlebury School in Africa - Cameroon, which will be located in Yaoundé at the Université Catholique d’Afrique Centrale—(UCAC).
The Director will administer, implement, and develop Middlebury’s academic program in Cameroon. The Director will work closely with the Office of International Programs & Off-Campus Study (IPOCS) in consultation with the appropriate Middlebury faculty, programs and departments, the School in Africa Faculty Advisory Board, and the Vice President for Language Schools, Schools Abroad, and Graduate Programs (VPLSSAGP). Because this is a new program, the Director will be required to develop and manage key relationships in a cooperative, strategic manner.
The program opens in Fall 2012, and the preferred start date for the Director will be May 2012. The incoming director will be expected to come to Middlebury, VT, in July 2012 for training and the summer conference of all the directors of the C.V. Starr Middlebury Schools Abroad.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. in French language, linguistics, literature, or area studies (or a related field), native or near-native language competency in both French and English, as well as knowledge of both the Cameroonian and U.S. academic systems. Administrative and study abroad experience strongly preferred. Computer literacy essential. Candidates with relevant teaching experience, knowledge of language pedagogy, and a demonstrated interest in second-language acquisition, as well as strong interpersonal skills and leadership ability, will receive the strongest consideration. The successful candidate will spend the academic year in residence in Yaoundé, where s/he will be responsible for overseeing the study abroad experience of approximately 10-20 students per semester, and will spend time each summer in Middlebury, Vermont (while the Language Schools are in session), meeting with students, faculty, and staff.

Assistant Professor of French, Wesleyan University
Wesleyan University / French. Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2012. PhD in hand or near completion by time of appointment. We seek a colleague with a particular specialization and research interests in any field of French literature or culture after 1840, with the ability also to contribute broadly to an interdisciplinary French Studies curriculum ranging from the Middle Ages to the present. Preference will be given to candidates who are eager to collaborate with other scholars working in one or more of the following areas: Africana Studies, Atlantic Studies, History, Science and Society, or Sociology. Tenure Track in French and Francophone Studies. Assistant Professor to teach courses in any of the following primary fields: Nineteenth-century, Medieval/Renaissance. Our department is committed to a global francophone perspective. We welcome applications from candidates who can also teach Francophone African Studies. Other interests might include theater production, Cultural Studies, Gender Studies, and/or technology in language methodology.

The Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Tennessee seeks applications for a tenure-track position in French and Francophone studies at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning fall 2011.
